Day 63 - Urban shoe myth

As Carrie said in Sex and the City about these magnificent creatures: "Oh my God! Do you know what these are? Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes. I thought these were an urban shoe myth." Well, these are no myth - they are very real, and very beautiful. The style is Campari and the heel is a rather challenging (for Kittie at least) 4 inches high. They are black patent leather trimmed in black grosgrain. Worn with Estee Lauder's Youth Dew Amber Nude.

  1. what makes them a Mary Jane? They don't have the curved toe that I would expect.

  2. Well, of course, I love these. I have them in Nude/Taupe and they are damn fabulous! Again, the pointy toe is so flattering. Never let these go, Kittie. Promise me.

  3. Well, I suppose to some extent it's subjective. Carrie certainly identified these as Mary Janes, and I personally don't believe MJs have to have curved toes. Here is an excellent piece on the history of the Mary Jane by a devotee of vintage clothing here in Melbourne: http://circavintageclothing.com.au/2011/02/11/a-brief-history-of-the-mary-jane/

  4. Alice, I can't promise. I'm toying with the idea of putting them on eBay as they are just too high for me to do anything more than pose, preferably in a sitting position. I believe they do come in a 3" heel as well, is that right?

  5. Yes, there is a lower heel. Plus the kitten heel. I've been toying with investing in a pair of red patent oxford kitten heeled-MJs. Surely every woman needs a pair of red kitten heels, yes? (I can't wear the Louboutin cherry reds to work.)
