Welcome to the original 'year in shoes', where Kittie France got to see if she could meet the challenge to wear every pair she owned in the 365 days of 2011
"I never met a Manolo I didn't like." - Kittie France
"You can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes." - Patsy Stone
"I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes, I had one thousand and sixty." - Imelda Marcos

Day 88 - Year of the Rabbit
Dining at a top-secret Chinatown location in what is of course the year of the Rabbit, these magnificently elegant T-bars in a toasty beige by Christian Louboutin (check out the red heel interior) are beautiful in every way - including being very comfortable to wear. Congratulations, M Louboutin! They are accompanied by an equally beautiful scent by the great London perfume house Ormonde Jayne, Tiare. I'm a new convert - these are really wonderful fragrances!

Day 82 - Visitors from America
Kittie has guests - very charming and stylish American guests. Just breezing in from New York, these Cordovan Monk Straps in Ox Blood by shoemaker Alden are pictured following a nice cup of tea at Self Preservation on Collins Street. From the Alden website: "Since 1884, the Alden Shoe Company has designed and manufactured classic gentlemen's footwear that represents America's tradition of old-school, custom shoemaking at its finest". Indeed.
So as not to be completely upstaged, Kittie is wearing some stylish straps of her own. These brown satin heels by Manolo Blahnik feature olive green leather heels and trim. They are worn with Lyric by Amouage.

Day 77 - Beer O'Clock
Partaking of a quick bevvy apres-work with colleagues at Self Preservation, these Emanuel Ungaro slingbacks in beige perforated ponyskin with what looks like faux-lizard trim on the toe tips and heels are enjoying what is traditionally known in these parts as "beer o'clock" (not that Kittie drinks much beer). Please admire the trademark Ungaro hot pink soles, which are partnered with the luscious Premier Figuier Extreme by L'Artisan Parfumeur.

Day 75 - Deja vu
OK, OK, I know that you are probably thinking...she's run out of shoes, so she's repeating them! Oh, and while we're at it, she's also repeating shooting scenes (this striped laneway has been seen before). Well, sure, the laneway and shoes have been seen before, but as to running out of shoes and ideas....absolutely, no, no, no!! Nothing could be farther from the truth! I'm only wearing these lovely Manolo Blahnik greyish taupe mules again (they were in last night's post adorned with clip-on bling) because Alice wanted a better look at them. The colour is quite unusual, bordering on what I call 'Weimeraner' - a luxurious soft greyish brown, like the dog. They have a low kitten heel, a relatively deep vamp - no toe cleavage - and a scalloped braid-like trim. They are worn with Chanel's ethereal Bois des Iles, a fabulous autumnal scent.

Day 74 - On the runway
A bit blurry but I like this shot, taken on the runway at the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival late this evening. This very charming pair of Manolo Blahnik taupe mules have a subtle scalloped braid around the edge of the vamp. Because I've gone from work to evening I've glammed them up with some clip-on 'Shoe Bling' (TM), which is probably a terrible sin. Forgive me if so, Manolo! Worn with Estee Lauder's Youth Dew Amber Nude.

Day 73 - Happy holiday
Labour Day in the park on the swing with a very fun pair of Manolo Blahnik sandals, with nude leather straps strung with coral-coloured beads that make a lovely shaking sound when you walk. The heels are striped wooden stack heels in shades of neutral and soft red. Perfect for a day off! Worn with (again) Guerlain's Cologne du Parfumeur.

Day 70 - Friday night
Isabella Fiore slingbacks in a nut brown with cute wooden button detail enjoying a glass of champers or three on Friday after a hard week at work, accompanied by a refreshing new acquisition, Guerlain's Cologne du Parfumeur. This elegant scent was created in 2010 by the house's new master parfumeur, the interestingly named Thierry Wasser (I originally assumed he was a cologne ingredient rather than the creator). Silly moi!
...Oh, alright, I suppose I'll have another glass...

Day 69 - The blue hour
Manolo Blahnik black mules with chunky silver chain detail posed at carpark #425, at that hour between light and dark either end of the day - what the French call l'heure bleue (the blue hour), which occurs at dawn or twilight. These lovely heels are partnered with - well, what do you know? - L'Heure Bleue, Guerlain's immortal classic from 1912.

Day 68 - Sacre Bleu!
Sergio Rossi teal blue slings with silver buckle detail and wood stacked heels. They're worn with the dreamy fragrance Sacrebleu by Patricia de Nicolai (nee Guerlain) of Parfums de Nicolai. I bought this in Paris a few years ago and I love it. I also love that a woman is running a maison de parfum! Apparently this is a reference/tribute to Guerlain's beautiful classic, L'Heure Bleue. Try it!

Day 67 - Chinatown
Chinatown, Melbourne, lunchtime, Tuesday. Lunching at an undisclosed location - because it's so good I want to keep it a secret. Tottered down Little Bourke Street in these lovely Kate Spade patent peeptoes, bought a few years ago at the store on Oak Street in Chicago - when I was lucky to snap them up for 50 bucks (they were relocating over the road and selling off stock super-cheap). The style is 'Gwen' and they are easy to wear. Note the double heel strap and interesting criss-cross detail. Worn with Serge Lutens' Cedre. Great feng shooey.

Day 66 - White shoe brigade
A heavenly warm early autumn day in a lovely pair of Manolo Blahnik white patent sandals, enjoying themselves in the park accompanied by Chanel's elegant and refreshing Bel Respiro from Les Exclusifs.

Day 65 - Bread
Helga (sorry, Kittie) has been baking bread in an advanced breadmaking course in the bakery at the Abbotsford Convent. All morning, into the day, wearing Funkis clogs from Sweden, the perfect kitchen accessory. No perfume necessary, except for that of yeast, cinnamon and rising bread. Yummy!

Day 64 - Mirrored
Suede peeptoe pumps with mirrored heels by Zara, in a much-admired cobalt colour, pictured on a Saturday lunch outing, worn with Shanghai Tang's Mandarin Tea cologne.

Day 63 - Urban shoe myth
As Carrie said in Sex and the City about these magnificent creatures: "Oh my God! Do you know what these are? Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes. I thought these were an urban shoe myth." Well, these are no myth - they are very real, and very beautiful. The style is Campari and the heel is a rather challenging (for Kittie at least) 4 inches high. They are black patent leather trimmed in black grosgrain. Worn with Estee Lauder's Youth Dew Amber Nude.

Day 62 - Back to nature
Ah, nature! These heroic Sergio Rossi black slingback heels with interesting detailed leatherwork are looking serious in the landscape atop a mossy rock in front of a majestic spotted gum. They are joyfully paired with one of my absolute favourite fragrances, Amouage Jubilation 25.

Day 61 - Town Hall
Mid-brown mesh round-toe slingbacks by Christian Louboutin (see the red under the heels) in a style called Quadrillette, worn with L'Artisan Parfumeur's Timbuktu, one of my faves. The shot is taken at Melbourne Town Hall after an International Women's Day function.

Day 60 - Never smile at a crocodile
First day of autumn. These choc mock croc Max Studio slings have been amongst my most cherished investments, even if they are made in China (and, be assured, hardly any of my shoes are). With their comfortable spike heels and cross-over straps, they are very handsome, well-made and easy to wear. They're also quite a few years old. Taking a gasp of fresh air during the working day with a dear friend, they are paired with the delightful 'masculine' rose fragrance of Twill Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine.
